Is the estimate on this site the real price?

Paragon does not set prices. The builder gives you a ballpark from typical market rates so you know roughly what to expect. Our moving partner then reviews your inventory and issues their own written quote — that number is the real one, and your agreement is with them.

How is the cost of my move determined?

We look at the amount and weight of your furniture, the distance between locations, and access at both ends — stairs, elevators, long carries from the door to the truck, tight corners, and complex pieces like bunk beds, wall units, or oversized desks.
Tell your coordinator about exceptionally heavy items such as pianos, gun safes, or hot tubs up front: they can require extra movers and specialized equipment, and flagging them early keeps your quote accurate.

What does this cost me?

Nothing. Paragon is free to you — the moving company pays us a referral fee when a move books. That fee comes out of their side, not added to your price, and you are never obligated to book with them.

Question 4

Do I pay a deposit? Who do I pay?

Accepted Answer

You pay the moving company directly, on their terms — Paragon never handles your money. Deposit, payment methods, and timing are set by the mover and stated in their written quote before you sign anything.

Question 5

Can I pay for my move over time?

Accepted Answer

Often, yes — our moving partner works with a lender that offers monthly payment plans. Prequalifying takes about a minute and does not affect your credit score. Terms are set by the lender, and the arrangement is between you, them, and the mover. Ask us and we will point you to it.

When is the best time to move?

Summer (June–August), weekends, and the last week of the month are the busiest — and priciest — times industry-wide. If your dates are flexible, a mid-week, mid-month, or winter move typically costs less. We also recommend a morning start time so your crew isn’t coming from an earlier job.

How far in advance should I book?

Accepted Answer

Two to three weeks is comfortable for most local moves. For end-of-month dates, summer weekends, or long-distance moves, four to six weeks is safer. We do take last-minute moves when the schedule allows — call us.

Question 8

My move date changed. What should I do?

Accepted Answer

Don’t stress — closings slip and leases shift all the time. Call us as soon as you know. Changes made 48 hours or more before your start time are free; inside 48 hours a rescheduling fee of two crew-hours applies, and availability for the new date can’t be guaranteed, though we’ll do everything we can.

How long will my move take?

Our quoting system estimates the time from your inventory and the distance between locations, and your written quote states the expected duration. Real-world factors — stairs, long walks to the truck, elevator waits — can stretch it, so reserving your building’s loading dock and elevator ahead of time is the single best way to keep the move quick.

What happens if something gets damaged?

Coverage comes from the moving company, not from Paragon. Federal rules give you basic released-value coverage at no cost (60¢ per pound per article) and the option to buy full-value protection before the move. Ask your mover to spell out both in writing — and call us if you want help reading it.

Question 11

What are "items of extraordinary value"?

Accepted Answer

Industry term for anything worth more than $100 per pound — jewelry, furs, fine art, coin or stamp collections, crystal, antiques, Oriental rugs, precious stones, china, and silverware. Declare these to your coordinator before moving day so proper coverage can be arranged; standard released-value coverage (60¢/lb) does not adequately protect them.

Can I move jewelry, cash, and other valuables?

We strongly recommend carrying irreplaceable items — cash, jewelry, documents, photographs, heirlooms — with you personally. If you do want them in the shipment, they must be declared before packing day and covered under additional valuation.

Question 13

Are you licensed and insured?

Accepted Answer

Paragon is a referral service, so carrier authority does not apply to us — but the mover we refer you to has it, and we verify it. They hold USDOT operating authority, Virginia intrastate certification where required, cargo and liability insurance, and workers’ compensation for every crew member, so you are never liable for an injury on your property. Ask us for their license numbers and we will send them.

Who actually performs my move?

A licensed, insured moving company — our vetted partner. Paragon is a referral service, not a moving company: we make the introduction, they quote you, contract with you, and do the work. You will know exactly who they are before you commit to anything.

Question 15

Do your crews pack, or do I pack myself?

Accepted Answer

Either. Pack everything yourself, have us pack only the fragile items or specific rooms — kitchen, closets, dressers — or book full packing: we arrive the day before with all materials and pack room by room. Your coordinator will walk through the options during your estimate.

Question 16

Will my furniture stay clean?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Every piece is padded and stretch-wrapped before it leaves the room, and our trucks are cleaned between jobs — your furniture arrives in the condition it left.

Question 17

I’m packing myself — any advice?

Accepted Answer

Use small boxes for heavy items and big boxes for light ones, pack plates on edge, fill every box to the top so it doesn’t crush, and label by room on the side (not the top). Ask your coordinator for our packing checklist — we’re happy to send it, and we sell professional-grade supplies if you need them.

Are there items you won’t move?

Accepted Answer

Yes: hazardous materials (propane, paint, fuels, ammunition), and we ask you to personally transport cash, jewelry, and irreplaceable documents. Perishables, plants, and pets have special handling — see below.

Question 19

Can I move frozen or perishable food?

Accepted Answer

We can load them, but we can’t guarantee their safety — trucks aren’t refrigerated. The practical answer: eat down the freezer in the weeks before your move, cooler-transport what’s left in your car, and donate the rest.

Question 20

Can you move my house plants?

Accepted Answer

Plants ride better in your car — trucks get hot and dark, and we can’t accept responsibility for them. For long-distance moves, note that some states restrict incoming plants; check the destination state’s rules before moving day.

Question 21

Can my pets ride in the truck?

Accepted Answer

No — pets can’t travel in the moving truck. Dogs, cats, and birds do best in the family car. If that’s not workable, your coordinator can point you to reputable pet-transport services.

Question 22

Can you store my things between homes?

Accepted Answer

Yes. We offer climate-controlled storage by the month, including pickup, inventory, and redelivery. Everything stays padded and wrapped in sealed vaults.
